Scabiosa "Butterfly Blue"

Columbine "McKana"

Columbine "Winky Blue and White"

Saxifraga "Highland Red"

"Angelique" tulip

Well, spring has finally arrived in the Greenwich garden! The tulips are looking lovely and all but one of the perennials have survived the winter. I've added some new plants this spring:Columbine "Winky Blue", Scabiosa "Butterfly Blue",and Saxifraga "Highland Red". Every trip to Home Depot results in some new additions to the garden! I just can't resist all the beautiful temptations. Vegetables are planted, and the herb garden is doing very well. I can't wait to pick and eat those first tomatoes! YUM!!!

Sunday, December 16, 2007 --- The Lizzard Returns!

Snow falls on St. Francis

and covers all

the sleeping bulbs!

The new orchids!

OK... so I've been a little busy lately. There are some new orchids in the collection and some of the non productive ones have been donated to the Orchid Society. They auction them off to new homes gaining money for the society and hopes of success for the new owners! The Greenwich garden is under snow and ice now. I planted 100 tulip bulbs just before the snow hit! Hopefully Mischievous Squirrel didn't see me planting them. We all know that he will assume that they are a spring treat for him! Have a good winters nap my lovely garden...See you in the spring. My thanks to Mischievous Squirrel for maintaining my blog while I was so busy. I haven't seen you in a long time...Are you settled down for a long winter's nap too? Maybe some seeds ON THE SNOW...NOT ON THE DECK...can lure you out!

Saturday, July 7, 2007 --- Fourth of July in the Garden

That damned squirrel is back!

The sign was clearly posted!

Lovely snapdragons are added to the front bed.

The new pink verbena,"Limerock Dream", and "Moonbeam" coreopsis.

Everything is growing fast here in the Greenwich garden! The new rock garden is working out very well, and all the flowers planted in it seem to be happy. However...the school system has failed the local rodent population...The sign was clearly posted and still they think it's OK to pig out here!!! I may have to resort to more drastic measures! Squirrels BEWARE!!!

Saturday, June 30, 2007 --- Look what's new in the garden!

Recently I have added some new plants in the front garden beds. Now that the greens of the spring bulbs have died back, I've added some Snapdragons in their place! No easy task considering that you have to dig around the sleeping bulbs. In the new bed I've added some pink Verbena and some new types of Coreopsis. The salmon colored one is "Limerock Dream" and the tiny flowered yellow one is "Moonbeam". I love their delicate little flowers! The Nasturtiums on the deck have started to bloom in shades of yellow, red, and orange. The newly constructed rock garden on the ledge is finished and planted with red Verbena and pink Impatiens. Normally I wouldn't have put pink and red together, but they really seem to complement each other very nicely! The new bed along the neighbors garage is finished. What a digging task that was. Every time I put the shovel in the ground I'd hit a rock! Not always a little rock but a LARGE rock! Some were too large for me to lift! The ones that I could lift became the wall of the rock garden. Today is the first day all week that it's not raining. I'll be out there tonight weeding and planting in the moonlight! New photos will be posted soon. Be sure to check them out!

Thursday, June 21, 2007 --- Garden Updates

Wow! Look how big we've grown! It looks like we may be eating tomatoes in July. Yummm! There are flowers on the string bean plants and we've had many arugula salads. The flowers are still happy and the new flower bed is the envy of all the neighbors. Wait until the blanket flowers start to bloom. I plan to create another bed by the mailboxes for the rest of the blanket flowers when the seedlings are large enough to transplant. The next venture will be some flowers in the back yard!

The envy of all the neighbors!

The big flower pots...

Pansies are still going strong...

Look at these tomatoes!

My, how we've grown!

There's flowers on those bean plants!

Tuesday, May 22, 2007 --- Springtime in the new garden!

Rescued Orchid Blooms!

Spring Flowers

Future Tomatoes

The Raised Garden

There's a new garden here in Greenwich! After many years of being separated from the soil, we have been reunited. My man has kindly built me a raised bed in the yard. The plants and seeds are in, so now it's all about waiting and watering. The flowers in the front of the house are looking very happy. I'm hoping to create some more flower beds in the front. There is a "rescued" orchid that has just come into bloom for the first time. Gotta love the rescued plant. You never know what you'll get! Good or bad, it's always rewarding to revive an ailing plant and get it to bloom for you!
