Sunday, May 11, 2008 --- Spring Comes to the Greenwich Garden

Scabiosa "Butterfly Blue"

Columbine "McKana"

Columbine "Winky Blue and White"

Saxifraga "Highland Red"

"Angelique" tulip

Well, spring has finally arrived in the Greenwich garden! The tulips are looking lovely and all but one of the perennials have survived the winter. I've added some new plants this spring:Columbine "Winky Blue", Scabiosa "Butterfly Blue",and Saxifraga "Highland Red". Every trip to Home Depot results in some new additions to the garden! I just can't resist all the beautiful temptations. Vegetables are planted, and the herb garden is doing very well. I can't wait to pick and eat those first tomatoes! YUM!!!

Thursday, December 20, 2007 --- Just because this was making me laugh...And, I like to bust the Lizzard's chops!

Sunday, December 16, 2007 --- The Lizzard Returns!

Snow falls on St. Francis

and covers all

the sleeping bulbs!

The new orchids!

OK... so I've been a little busy lately. There are some new orchids in the collection and some of the non productive ones have been donated to the Orchid Society. They auction them off to new homes gaining money for the society and hopes of success for the new owners! The Greenwich garden is under snow and ice now. I planted 100 tulip bulbs just before the snow hit! Hopefully Mischievous Squirrel didn't see me planting them. We all know that he will assume that they are a spring treat for him! Have a good winters nap my lovely garden...See you in the spring. My thanks to Mischievous Squirrel for maintaining my blog while I was so busy. I haven't seen you in a long time...Are you settled down for a long winter's nap too? Maybe some seeds ON THE SNOW...NOT ON THE DECK...can lure you out!

Sunday, August 5, 2007 --- It's Official...the Herman Sisters are Popular!

Well, maybe not popular-popular, but they are a part of popular art...on!

Casablanca movie posters -- what a lovely entrée into the wonderful world of mosaics for the Herman Sisters!

The first poster is a black and white version in which Aunt Jackie aka crazyvermonter appears several times. You can see the circled kitty faces that I was able to find with a quick eyeball scan...

In this colorful version, Aunt Jackie and your favorite reptile, Lizzie Sue aka the_lizzard appear together! Those Herman girls really get around, huh? I have marked them with separate colors -- this time crazyvermonter is circled in green and the_lizzard in red.

Congratulations ladies! As per usual, you can see the original versions of the mosaics with the list of members at and become a part of the art by "following" twitter_mosaic.

Friday, July 27, 2007 --- An Episode of "This American Life" that details the tragic story of "the Squirrel Cop"...and other good stuff!

Today's post features an audio player!!! We found a very funny (and...somewhat appropriate) episode of This American Life from Public Radio International, WBEZ Chicago, that we thought y'all would enjoy. There are some great stories included here -- it is definitely worth a listen...

So, GO! Get yourself a cup of tea (or coffee) and enjoy TAL's Episode 115: "First Day".

-------> Mischievous Squirrel, my esteemed fellow-guest-blogger, may want to skip the section of the program regarding the "Squirrel Cop" -- it is very disturbing! <------

[Image courtesy of the reproductive powers of Jared Benedict, who borrowed the design from his This American Life T-shirt and painstakingly recreated the artwork in Adobe Illustrator. I know what that's like...God, bless his patience!]
